 Equadors Earth Quakes 

    An earthquake is a sudden shaking of the earth caused by unexpected and quick built-up energy being released. More minor earthquakes in Ecuador tend to occur throughout the years with the last big one being a 6.0 magnitude earthquake on the Rictor scale in 2022. Six years before in 2016, a 7.8-magnitude quake hit Ecuador, becoming the biggest one since 1979 and killing over 700 people. 

    As you can see in the image below earthquakes are more likely to hit on the coast of the country since it is so close to the South American plate and the Nazca plate. Both these plates are incredibly active and are caused earthquakes 7 or more extensive over the years. The South American plate alone causes over one million recorded earthquakes a year, while typically small and barely noticeable that is still a concerning amount. (Image link here: 267 × 300)

According to the website Iris Ecuador has had thirteen 4-magnitude and over earthquakes in Ecuador or near the border of Ecuador since the start of 2023. The highest has been a 5.1 off the coast of Ecuador.
