Volcanos Wk 5

 Ecuador's Volcanos

When you think of Ecuador you typically don't think about the volcanos. While Ecuador is located in the ring of fire a path along the pacific ocean of active volcanos. While there are 22 volcanos in Ecuador only 20 are considered active and eruptions are not very common.     The worst volcanic eruption in Ecuador's happened in 1640 when the volcano Tungurahua erupted killing over 5000 people. (Image link: 755 × 502)

The last volcano to erupt in Ecuador also happened to be the Tungerahua volcano in 2016. Tungerahua means "The throat of fire" in Quechua. The eruption left a bloom of smoke that was over 3 miles high. Lava flowed down the side of the volcano but touched no villages and no one was hurt thankfully. While Ecuador doesn't have that many earthquakes and when they do they are typically not a threat it does have active volcanos that should be taken very seriously.

Ecuador has no migration measures for its people but the country does have specific alerts for volcanoes. For example in 2015 many earthquakes happened in Ecuador making the government put up a yellow alert. A yellow alert allows everyone to know to prepare for a volcanic eruption.

  2. That is a lot of volcanic activity! Great visual aids, they really help show the intensity at which volcanoes reside within Ecuador.
